Nausea & Medical Marijuana
Nausea is a sickening feeling, usually associated with a gastrointestinal disorder. Nausea and vomiting are meant to be a protective response - to avoid ingestion of potentially harmful substances. In a nauseous reaction, signals are sent to the brain from body receptors with the message that food should be rejected, in response to an infection, physical stress or other perceived threats.
"I don't know why you call it morning sickness, because I was sick all day and night!"
-- Soleil Moon Frye

Marijuana and Nausea
Cannabis has long been known to limit or prevent nausea and vomiting from a variety of causes.
With the discovery of the body's own endocannabinoid system, Cannabinoids, components of Medical Cannabis offer novel ways to regulate both nausea and vomiting. Medical Marijuana and its derivatives are now commonly prescribed by California Physicians to treat Nausea. While not all forms of Cannabis are suitable for all, most patients report relief with few undesirable side effects.
Pharmaceuticals and Nausea - No Walk in the Park
Common pharmaceuticals prescribed to treat nausea include promethazine, metoclopramide and ondansetron. While these drugs can be effective for some, side effects are a very serious concern.
- "Stop using promethazine and call your doctor at once if you have twitching or uncontrollable movements of your eyes, lips, tongue, face, arms, or legs. These could be early signs of dangerous side effects."
- "High doses or long-term use of metoclopramide can cause a serious movement disorder that may not be reversible."
- "Ondansetron common side effects include confusion, dizziness, elevated heartbeat, fever
- "Headache, shortness of breath, weakness, plus thirty other side effects!"
